My boy is playing at the Titans game

Posted by: Jonathan Hopson   in Sports, Spring Hill

Cody’s team will be playing during halftime of the Titans game. This is a once in a lifetime thing for these kids. They’re leaving Spring Hill at 4pm and riding the bus to LP Field. When they get there, they’ll take a tour of the facility and have something to eat. From the start to the finish they’ll be on the Titans sidelines enjoying the whole thing. Best of all, during halftime, they play an 8 minute scrimmage on the 10 yard line.

Of course, Alicia and I are going to be there and take lots of pictures. We might even bump into @DavidHFoster & @pwilson while we’re there. This is gonna be a night to remember.

Region’s Bank robbed

Posted by: Jonathan Hopson   in Spring Hill

I went out for lunch today and called my wife. She told me that there was a robbery at the Region’s Bank in Spring Hill. My wife works at 5/3 Bank in Franklin. As I drove near Spring Hill Academy (where Elevation Church meets), I noticed a helicopter flying around. I spoke with Rev. Coughlin at SHAP and he said that SWAT came and told them to lock down the school. I guess all schools and banks get notified when something like this happens. It’s sad to see this happen.

For more information about this, check the Tennessean or this blog. They got a good pic of the helicopter.

Doesn’t make sense

Posted by: Jonathan Hopson   in Spring Hill

For those of you who don’t know, Spring Hill is seated between 2 counties; Maury & Williamson. With that, there are lots of problems. One of which is that both counties have a hospital and it takes you around 30 minutes to get to either one. A few years ago, Spring Hill’s mayor died because it took the ambulance 20+ minutes to get to him.

HCA Tristar announced 2 years ago that they wanted to build a 56 bed hospital in Spring Hill. It was fought against by Maury Regional and Williamson Medical, yet gained approval from the state’s hospital board. The 2 hospitals appealed and won with a law judge (1st time ever happened). The ruling went back to the state’s board where they reapproved it.

Now, both hospitals are fighting in circuit court. In the meantime, we’re left with inadequate care and both hospitals could give a rip about that. They also are spending millions of our dollars to appeal because they say “the appeal is about quality and level of care, not a financial or business decision and that opposing the HCA facility is an effort to ensure a higher level of care for Spring Hill.”

If this is a higher level of care, then maybe they should just take a drive from Spring Hill to one of their hospitals during rush hour.

Tornado????

I knew driving from Franklin to Spring Hill was tough, but this? Evidently, it got worse near my parent’s house on Carter’s Creek.

T-Ball Game #1

Posted by: Jonathan Hopson   in Sports, Spring Hill

Cody had his first game today and tied 12-12. He went 2 for 3 with some very solid hits. One hit was a line drive that came back and almost hit me. He would’ve went 3 for 3 if my pitching would have been better.

Here’s some pics from the game today:

One Prayer

Alicia and I just returned from an overnight camping trip to Fall Creek Falls State Park. I’m beat, but couldn’t help share the big announcement that came from LifeChurch.tv today. In case you missed it, check out this link.

As a LifeChurch.tv Network Church, of course we’ll be joining with the thousands for this. More details from me will be coming soon.

May God make us One!

Church in a preschool (part 2)

Posted by: Jonathan Hopson   in Elevation Church, Spring Hill

Continuing from yesterday’s post, our church meets in a preschool. Each Saturday, we go in and transform the preschool into a meeting place for our church. Since we believe the church is way much more than a building, we use the building once a week and pay rent on that. It’s a great deal for our church and it also provides income for the school. We also pay for things to help the school stretch their budget too. A few months back, we started paying for the carpet cleaning and also some mini-blinds to help as the kids nap.

The one problem we have is that it is a preschool. As you saw from yesterday, there are things hanging on the ceiling, art pictures on the wall, chalkboards, desks, chairs, and anything else you can imagine. We don’t take those things down. We just move them and try to cover up as much as we can. To maximize our budget, we didn’t buy pipes and drape to cover everything up. We use the preschool’s dividers to do what we can.

So facility wise, here’s some before and after pictures for you to see. What would you do different?

How do you do it?

Posted by: Jonathan Hopson   in Elevation Church, Spring Hill

So we have church in a preschool. Churches have met in all kinds of places. They’ve met in tents, bars, clubs, the local YMCA, schools, homes, coffee shops, and of course their own building. We looked for somewhere to meet back in April ‘07. We couldn’t find anything that didn’t have a church already meeting there (there’s a ton of churches here). As we were looking, my son Cody went to school at Spring Hill Academy Preschool. I spoke with their director, Rev. Perry Coughlin, about our search. Perry and I talked about us meeting there and paying them rent for our usage. We hammered out the details and well, the rest is history.

Since June ‘07, Elevation Church has met in their 6,000 sq. ft. facility. They have 3 suites and we have all access to them. For today, let me show you what it looks like before we show up on Saturdays.

As you look these over, imagine how you would setup for church. What could you do here? I look forward to your comments.
