You may have heard that the Obama family is searching for a dog that is suitable to their child’s allergies. I feel their pain in this search. According to this article, there isn’t a hypo-allerginic dog out there.
Brianne is highly allergic to dogs, but it seems that it only affects her face. She can pet and play with dogs all day. When she touches her face or the dog touches her face, her allergy takes over. First, her eyes get red. She then gets the sniffles and finally red bumps appear where her face was touches.
The way we treat her allergy is simply to wash her hands and her face. We’ll also hold a wet washcloth over the affected spot. Usually her symptom will subside in 15-30 minutes if we catch it early.
Know of any good dogs or ways to help with this allergy.
I’m all ears…

We have a Carin Terrier (like Toto) and my dog allergies seem to be kept at bay.
He gets a bath every week or so, and doesn’t shed. This is what I said to my wife and kids:
“Daddy is slightly allergic to dogs, and I know you want one. Can you 1) find one that doesn’t shed, 2) find one that’s smart, and 3) find one that won’t tear my leg off if it’s mad.
Bailey fits that criteria nicely and has been a really really good dog.
Good luck-

Check out a Chinese Crested. They’re another toy dog, but have very little fur or dander. I’m pretty allergic to most house dogs, but never had a problem with one of these.

Jason & Bill. Thanks so much for your suggestions. I’m hoping to check out some dogs soon and see which ones would work for her. I’ll certainly ask to see these too.
