I commented last night on my friend Pete’s blog about the VP debate. As a pastor, it’s really not my place to get into politics. Some churches & pastors have. To that I say “what the heck are they thinking?” The church’s business will always be the same: to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Christ. It’s the same no matter if a R, D, I, L, or whatever is in the Oval Office, Congress, State, City, or HOA office. I’ll believe that ’til I’m dead.

All that said, I’m sick of polls. Everyday, there’s a new Gallup Tracking poll. There’s some new poll almost everyday about this state & that state, women, men, and whatever else you want to poll. As fast as they can get them out, there’s snapshot polls after each debate by CNN, MSNBC, FOXNEWS-txt poll, CBSNEWS, ABCNEWS, & on and on. BTW, I think CNN tracking poll at the bottom during the debates is probably the stupidest idea I have ever seen & definitely the most distracting. If you’re gonna tell people you’re not biased and that people should make up their own mind, drop the silly banner at the bottom and let me decide what I’m hearing. All that tells me is what polls well with someone having a dial in their hand. I haven’t been polled by anyone in my life other than Neilsen ratings, so the validity of these polls are certainly out of the question for me.

With the inundation of these polls, it does makes me wonder a few things. Obviously, how valid are they? Who are the people doing the voting on the online polls (80%-20% raises huge red flags)? Are the people who say they are independents, really independent? Same goes for undecided voters. And finally, do these polls change people’s minds? I mean, by repeating poll numbers over and over, do they make someone question what they hear?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.
