My last post described how I was gearing up for the big Indy 200 in Nashville. Well, on Saturday we left for the track after setting up for church. We arrived just after the green flag dropped for the Indy Pro Series race. This race was fun to watch and had a very fiery crash.
After the Pro race was over we waited for the Indy race to start at 6:30pm. Brianne and I walked around the tents to see what new things they had setup. As we walked, I heard a familiar voice blaring through the microphone on the “I Am Indy” stage. It was none other than Gene Simmons. Nice to see him in Nashville.
Around 6:00pm, they went through the opening festivities and it started to rain. Then it rained harder and harder. We waited for about 10 minutes for it to stop, but it didn’t. We went under the stands to seek shelter. Everyone else did too. The shelter did have a problem though. It leaked. The rain was gushing through the metal steps and onto our heads. It was just like we were outside in the downpour.
After about 30 minutes, the rain stopped and we went back to our seats. My binocular case had about a 1/2 inch of water in it. The crew dried the track and we thought racing would begin very soon. Then it started raining again. Around 8:30pm they decided to postpone the race for Sunday at 12pm. Good postponement, bad time.
We had church on Sunday and at 11:15am, we left everything setup and locked the doors. Alicia, Brianne, and I raced to the track. Yes I did race to get there on time. To give you and idea how quickly we made it there, Tyre and his family left about 10 minutes before we did and we arrived at the same time.
The race was really awesome to watch and I was happy that both Brianne and Alicia were able to see their first race. Hopefully they’ll go with me next year.
