As we started Elevation, the question of when kept popping in my mind. When should we have church? What is the best time to have church?
One guy I know very well preaches that the best time is 10:30am. Another says 11:00am. But when is the best? I can’t say for you, but I believe the best time for a single experience would be 10:00am. Here’s why:
10am is not too early and it’s not too late. If the experience is 1 hour, then you’ll beat the other churches to the restaurant (Come on, you gotta love that). It’s also a good time because if you have kids like Alicia and I do, it gives you plenty of time to have breakfast, get them dressed, and out the door for church without pulling your hair out.
The main reason we chose 10am for our worship experience is for the future. Let’s say that God blesses our efforts and our church grows. You have to make a choice. What time would you put another experience? How many people would make that choice to change their schedule and attend a different time?
The best thing to do is change it all up. Make the two experiences at 9am & 11am. By design, this will force everyone to make the choice. Most will choose 11am, but those early risers (like Dalten at 6:30 am) will attend the 9am. Having 2 experience will also provide new serving opportunities that weren’t possible before. You can come to one experience and serve at the other.
