This morning, I decided to head out to our patio and read my Bible there. It’s such a beautiful day, I just can’t help it. Today, I read Numbers 13.God tells Moses to send out 1 person from every tribe in Israel. That amounts to 12 people. For 40 days, their job was to spy out the land and then report back to Moses. Now Moses was a guy of details. He wanted to know everything about the land. Not just how pretty it was or stuff like that. He wanted to know everything about the land.

So the 40 days are up and they return back to give their report. Of the twelve, only Joshua and Caleb said they could take them. “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” The other 10 were ready to tuck tails and run. They’re too big, there’s too many of them, etc… They saw things that scared them, but they also saw that the land was exactly what God had promised.

Ten men’s fears made the nation of Israel turn away from God’s promise. For the next 40 years, everyone over the age of 20 died except Joshua and Caleb. God saw their faithfulness and wholehearted commitment to Him and spared their lives. Joshua and Caleb didn’t care what problems or battles they would face. They only wanted to do what God wanted. I like that. That’s how I want my life to be described. “He was doing what God wanted him to do.”

Sometimes my life is like that. God asks me to do something and then my fear makes me want to turn away & take the easy road out. It’s the spot where the rubber meets the road. It’s where obedience is really put to the test. Will you be faithful?

Will you trust God in the face of insurmountable odds? Is there anything that God is asking you to do? What’s holding me back from stepping up and facing my giants?
