I watched a quick special about The Natural on ESPN the other night. They interviewed current MLB players to see how many of them were influenced by the movie. It was amazing to see how many there were. My man Chipper Jones spoke about its influence on his life. Another player said that he would pause and rewind to see Roy Hobbs’ batting stance and would emulate him in his living room.
I remember doing the same thing as a kid. I imitated Dwight Gooden. Man could he pitch. When it came to fielding, it had to be Ryan Sandberg. As far as batting, it was a toss up. I liked how Bob Horner and Dale Murphy batted. Of course, they were on my favorite team. THE BRAVES!
