In case you didn’t know, I’m coaching Cody’s T-Ball team. We’re the Complete Concrete Rockies. Today was our first practice…
Things started out well. We did some warm-ups and then I took them to home plate. I asked them where 1st, 2nd, and 3rd base was. Then I asked them where home was. I did it so that when I tell them to run to 2nd, they’ll know where to go. At this age, it’s basic fundamentals.
After running them around the bases, I split them up and taught them the alligator catch. It’s catching the ball with two hands alligator style. They understood and loved it.
We then worked on hitting. The field was spread out and someone batted. This was my only mistake because after the 4th batter, everyone was getting ancy and bored. By the time we went through the lineup, everyone was pretty much sitting down playing in the dirt.
I’ll learn from this and hopefully be able to keep them more active for our next practice. I’ll also recruit some parents to help the kids too.
